Village Blacksmith

Blacksmith

For many years, the blacksmith in Moore was Jack Oulton. Here he is shoeing a horse outside the Red Lion Inn. The smithy was situated in what is now the car park.

The blacksmith was a very important member of the community. Not only did he shoe horses, but he made and repaired all kinds of tools and farm implements. The wheelwrights in the village also had forges to make the iron tyres for carts.
