Reverend Thomas Thorpe Lee Jones was born in Tideswell, Derbyshire in 1860, to Thomas and Elizabeth. His father also was a Clerk in Holy Orders and Master of Tideswell Grammer School.
He was educated at Rochester Grammer School and at Oxford University, before taking up position as headmaster of Peel Grammer School in the Isle of Man.

In 1884 he married Louise Meyer in Manchester, and left the Isle of Man in 1888, taking up the position of headmaster at Ormskirk Grammar School, leaving there in 1896 for Guisborough Grammar School in Yorkshire.
In 1905, he gave up teaching and became the Vicar of Daresbury, and quickly won the affection of his parishioners, who described him as “kindly, sympathetic and always cheerful”. He was a sporty man, playing cricket, football and golf, and it was noted in his obituary that his “manliness” was another trait that made him beloved by his parish.
He was a member of the Freemasons, the Past Provincial Grand Chaplain for North and East Lancashire, and for West Lancashire. Sadly he fell ill and, realising he could no longer carry out his duties, resigned his post and arranged to move from the parish in October 1918, but died at the vicarage on 11 September 1918.
He was buried in All Saints’ churchyard the following day in a ceremony noted for its impressive turnout of parishioners, fellow clergy and masonic brethren
