Norman John Williams

Norman John Williams was born on 28th December 1919 at Neston on Wirral.  He was the son of Thomas Williams who was born in Ruabon in Denbighshire and his wife Elizabeth (nee Reeves) who was from Eccleshall in Staffordshire.  The father was a police constable for the Cheshire Constabulary and had served in a few places already in Cheshire as a local policeman.

Before Norman John was born, his parents had had six other children, Olive May, Violet Eveline, George Albert and Doris Lilian and two others who had died young.

The 1921 Census recorded the family as living at Mellock Lane in Little Neston, where Thomas was a policeman, his wife ran the household, and the eldest daughter Olive May was an apprentice costumier to a lady in Willaston.  The other children were either at school or not yet school age.

By 1939 the Williams family had moved to live on Sandy Lane in Preston Brook and the father was in the Police Reserve.  Norman John was a leather porter in a tannery and Doris Lilian was in domestic service.

Norman John did serve in World War Two as he was recorded on the Electoral Roll Service Register for Preston Brook in 1945 as being away on service.  His address was given as The Bungalow on Sandy Lane in Preston Brook.

Thomas and Elizabeth Williams passed away in 1952 and 1953 respectively.

It is thought that Norman John Williams married a Vera Monkhouse in Liverpool in 1953.

Norman John Williams passed away in 1995 in the Halton district.

It is not known in which branch of H.M. Forces Norman John Williams served, but he was on the 1945 Service Register. If anyone has any knowledge of his WW2 service, please contact Daresbury District Heritage Group.
