Norman John Farrington was born on 31st January 1911 at Ellesmere Port. He was the son of Richard Salisbury Farrington, who was born at Kirkham in Lancashire and his wife Marie Louise (nee Pritchard) who was from Liverpool. The family lived at 15, Grafton Road in Ellesmere Port, the father being employed as an insurance agent.
Norman had two older brothers, George Frederick and Victor James.
Sadly, Norman’s mother passed away in late 1916 at the age of 39 years, and his father moved to live in Aston near Preston Brook with his three young sons at the home of the paternal grandparents, James and Ann Farrington. The grandfather was a retired inspector of nuisances for Runcorn Rural District Council.
Norman’s brother George Frederick sadly passed away in 1931 at the age of 28 years.
The 1939 Register recorded Norman as living at The Cottage in Aston, with his father who was an unemployed railway clerk and his brother Victor who was a carpenter and joiner. Norman was working as a greyhound trainer and continued in this employment for many years.
Norman married Lily Taylor from Preston on the Hill in 1940 and they set up home in Chester Road in Preston Brook.
Norman John Farrington passed away in the Sefton North district of Lancashire on 21st January 1985 at the age of 73 years. His wife passed away in 2001 at Warrington.
It is not known in which branch of H. M. Forces Norman John Farrington served, but he was on the Electoral Roll Service Register for Preston Brook in 1945. If anyone has any knowledge of his WW2 service, please contact Daresbury District Heritage Group.
