George Thomas Harper was born on 25th April 1920 in Liverpool, the son of George Harper and Beatrice Emma (nee Miller). The father was employed as an electrical cable jointer by Callender Cables Co., which had a base at Prescot on Merseyside.
The 1921 Census recorded the family as living at 2B, Cambridge Street in the Abercromby district of Liverpool. Sisters called Audrey Joan and Olive Barbara were born in 1924 and 1928 respectively.
George enlisted in the RAF in October 1938 at Liverpool, as an Aircraftman with the number 811168. It is not known where he served during the first years of the war. His overseas service began in December 1944 when he went to Egypt as a Leading Aircraftman, serving there for one year. He was demobbed in January 1946.
On 9th March 1942 at Prescot, George had married Annie (Nancy) Chesworth, who was from Prescot, and they set up home there. The Harpers and their children then moved to live in Queen’s Drive in Liverpool.
George and Annie later moved to live in Preston Brook. He was the manager of Preston Brook Marina, retiring in 1995. George became an active member of Preston Brook Village Hall, especially its indoor bowls club. They then moved to Frodsham and to Mold in North Wales, moving back to live on Aston Green in Preston Brook in 2006.
George Thomas Harper passed away on 23rd December 2009 at Warrington General Hospital at the age of 89 years. He was cremated at Walton Crematorium and when his wife Annie passed away in 2018, their ashes were buried at St Mary the Virgin Churchyard in Prescot with her parents.
