English Civil War

With it’s proximity to the Cities of Chester, Liverpool and Manchester, and the vitally important crossing of the Mersey at Warrington, the parish of Daresbury played its part in the turmoil of the English Civil War.
One notable local figure includes John Daniell of Daresbury Hall itself, who fought for Parliament as a Captain, and then a Major in George Booth’s Regiment of Foot.
In 1645, he was one of only 2 active Cheshire officers who signed the “Anti-Brereton” petition, but in 1659 it appears he took part in Sir George Booth’s uprising to restore the monarchy.
