Napoleonic War

The Napoleonic wars affected all parts of the country at the beginning of the industrial revolution, with Daresbury Parish no different.
A number of local men went to war, and some even made it back in more or less of one piece.
John Pennington and Joseph Bennet were born in Preston Brook and joined in the early 1800s, serving at Waterloo among other battles, until they were forcibly discharged some 19 and 17 years later respectively; Thomas Cookson meanwhile was born in Frodsham, but served at Waterloo also. He left the army first, and made his way back to the area, taking a job at Preston Brook wharf, which he would remain in until shortly before his death in 1876.
