William James Duncalf was born and baptised in Daresbury in 1878, the son of William and
Martha. The family moved around the parish – in 1881 they were in Daresbury, 1891 in Acton Grange, 1901 and 1911 in Hatton. William had several siblings – Annie, Mary, Bertha, Jennet, Percy and Ethel.
William James enlisted into the RFC as a mechanic, service number 92096, on 17 August 1917. He almost certainly served in an aircraft repair department at Farnborough. His pay was 1s 6d per week. It is possible that he didn’t serve overseas as he doesn’t appear to have been issued with a medal card.
He married Annie Buckley, a widow, at Warrington register office on 29 September 1937. They had no children. He and Annie are recorded on the 1939 register as living in Bay Cottage, Chester Road. William died in Warrington on 3 March 1963.
